Jessica Simpson shocked fans by revealing she went to rehab because of her husband Eric Johnson: “He drove me to that dark place…”

Jessica Simpson and her husband, Eric Johnson, have decided to end their decade-long marriage,

following growing concerns about the strain their relationship was placing on Simpson’s sobriety.

The 44-year-old singer and reality star had put in significant efforts to salvage the relationship,

but despite her determination, these attempts have ultimately proven unsuccessful.

A source close to the couple shared that Simpson has felt she has grown and evolved as a person during their marriage,

while Johnson, 45, has not. “Jessica has grown, and Eric has not. For her, staying for the kids was not enough,” the insider revealed.

Over time, Simpson realized that her well-being was being affected by the relationship’s struggles, and she made the difficult choice to prioritize her mental health and sobriety over the marriage.

Sobriety has been a central focus of Simpson’s life for several years. After battling alcohol addiction, she has been sober since 2017, and this commitment has become a priority in her life, especially for the sake of her children. Friends of the family expressed concern that the constant tension and emotional strain from the relationship could push Simpson to relapse, which led to her decision to walk away from the marriage. “She needed to walk away from this. She is fragile, but she is not broken,” said the insider.

Simpson’s journey to sobriety was not an easy one. In 2020, she spoke openly about the impact alcohol had on her life, revealing how it affected her ability to be present for her children. “I was at a place where I was literally spiraling with the alcohol, and I was missing out on moments with my children, and then they were seeing me and they were very confused,” she said in a candid interview. It was during this time that she decided to make a change for the better, seeking professional help and focusing on her personal health and family.

The couple, who married in 2014, share three children together: Maxwell, 11; Ace, 11; and Birdie Mae, 5. Despite Simpson’s efforts to restore the marriage—including counseling, spiritual healing, and even exploring tantric exercises—the relationship continued to deteriorate. As Simpson became increasingly focused on her own well-being, she grew weary of putting in more effort when Johnson seemed to be “absent” in recent years. “The spark was completely gone, and she tried her best to avoid a divorce,” the source explained.

In light of these personal struggles, Simpson recently made a public statement confirming their separation. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage. Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them,” she said, acknowledging the difficulty of the situation while emphasizing her children’s well-being as her top priority.

This announcement came shortly after Simpson listed their Hidden Hills mansion for $17.9 million, a significant reduction from its original asking price. The decision to sell the family home marks another step toward moving on from their past and creating space for a new chapter in Simpson’s life.

Although Simpson’s separation from Johnson is a painful moment in her personal life, it underscores her commitment to staying healthy and being the best mother she can be to her children. She has already shown incredible strength in overcoming her addiction, and this difficult decision to part ways with her husband further demonstrates her unwavering focus on her own mental and emotional well-being.

As Simpson moves forward, she remains resolute in her dedication to her sobriety and her children. The future may look uncertain, but one thing is clear: Simpson is determined to continue prioritizing her health, her family, and her happiness above all else.
