Brody Jenner, the son of Olympian Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner), has never been shy about sharing his thoughts on his famous parent. 

In a recent appearance on *Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test*, Brody opened up about Caitlyn’s transition and their strained relationship over the years. 

Reflecting on the challenges of growing up in the spotlight and dealing with his parent’s transition, 

Brody revealed deep emotions about feeling neglected and abandoned, but also acknowledged a recent, heartfelt apology from Caitlyn.

In the candid conversation, Brody described the experience of Caitlyn coming out as transgender in 2015 and transitioning into a woman. 

“I will say he was going through his own struggles transitioning,” Brody said, referring to Caitlyn by her former name. 

He added that the entire process felt invasive, with many intimate moments captured on television for the reality show *I Am Cait*, which aired on E! The show chronicled Caitlyn’s life after coming out, and Brody described how it affected their relationship, noting, “All that was put on TV and there were these very intimate moments we would have and it was all filmed and it just felt very invasive and not very genuine.”

Caitlyn Jenner made headlines in 2015 when she came out as transgender in an interview with Diane Sawyer, later sharing her post-transition journey with the world. The transition, while significant for the transgender community, also created personal challenges for Caitlyn’s family, especially for Brody. He admitted that he didn’t feel supported during this time, sharing that Caitlyn wasn’t present much when he was growing up, particularly after marrying Kris Jenner and becoming a stepfather to the Kardashian children. Brody explained that his father (then Bruce) was often absent, and he would only see him sporadically, leading to feelings of abandonment.

As a child, Brody recalled writing cards asking why Caitlyn didn’t call him on his birthday. “Mom would tell me that I would write on cards, ‘Why doesn’t dad call me on my birthday?’ and things that I don’t even really remember,” he said. This sense of isolation continued when Caitlyn married Kris and became a father figure to her children, including Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, and Rob Kardashian. Brody confessed that he felt “a little bit abandoned” when his father’s focus shifted to his new family.

However, during the *Special Forces* interview, Brody shared that Caitlyn had recently given him a “real, sincere apology,” marking a turning point in their relationship. He described it as the first time in his life that he had received an apology from Caitlyn, and he acknowledged how much it meant to him. “I’m sorry for not being there,” Brody recalled Caitlyn saying. This moment of vulnerability seemed to help heal some of the wounds from their difficult past.

In addition to the personal struggles related to his father’s transition, Brody reflected on how his own experience as a father has shaped his perspective. Brody, who shares a daughter, Honey Raye, with fiancée Tia Blanco, expressed how becoming a parent has motivated him to do things differently. “I’m not living for myself anymore,” he said, explaining that everything he does now is for his daughter. He emphasized that his own painful childhood experience with Caitlyn has inspired him to be a better father, one who is present and supportive in ways that he felt were lacking during his own upbringing.

Brody’s dedication to being a good father was clear when he added, “I think not having Bruce around growing up and her doing that transition … it was tough just being her son. I just had a beautiful little daughter.” Brody’s commitment to his family contrasts with the struggles of his past, and he has expressed that he is eager to raise his daughter in a loving and involved environment, one that is centered on connection and understanding.

Despite their differences, Brody Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner have maintained some level of connection. In October 2024, Brody was seen attending Caitlyn’s 75th birthday celebration, posing for a group selfie alongside his former stepsister, Kim Kardashian, and other family members. Although their relationship has been far from perfect, it seems that time, growth, and open communication are allowing both Brody and Caitlyn to navigate their complex family dynamics with more understanding and mutual respect.

Brody’s openness about his struggles with Caitlyn’s transition and their evolving relationship highlights the challenges faced by families when navigating gender transitions.
