Brad Pitt was criticized by fans for his completely indifferent reaction toward a woman he allegedly scammed out of $1 million.

A French woman, identified only as Anne, has come forward with a harrowing tale of falling victim to an elaborate catfishing scam.

The 53-year-old was deceived into believing she was conversing with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, ultimately losing nearly $850,000 of her life savings in the process.

Anne’s story serves as a chilling reminder of the growing threats in the digital world,

where fraudsters increasingly target unsuspecting individuals with deceptive schemes.

Anne shared her experience in an interview with the French news program *Sept à huit*, revealing how she was manipulated over a period of time by someone posing as Brad Pitt.

It all began when Anne was contacted by an individual who claimed to be Jane Etta Pitt, the actor’s mother.

Being unfamiliar with social media and its potential dangers, Anne didn’t immediately recognize the scam. The interaction seemed harmless at first, as the person pretending to be Jane Etta introduced Anne to someone who allegedly was Brad Pitt himself.

“I’m not used to social media,” Anne admitted during the interview. “And I didn’t really understand what was happening to me.” Unfamiliar with the digital landscape, Anne was caught off guard when the fake Brad Pitt began building a romantic connection with her. The supposed Brad shared heartfelt messages, love poems, and personal conversations, which, Anne now believes, were all part of the manipulative tactics used by the scammer. “There are so few men who write you this kind of thing,” Anne confessed. “I liked the man I was talking to. He knew how to talk to women, it was always very well done.”

Over time, the scammer gained Anne’s trust and convinced her that he needed financial assistance. Claiming he was unable to access his funds due to a financial dispute tied to his divorce from Angelina Jolie, the impersonator spun a convincing tale. To further back his story, the fraudster sent Anne images that she now believes were artificially generated, depicting Brad Pitt undergoing cancer treatment.

The emotional manipulation proved effective, and Anne was persuaded to part with large sums of money to “help” the person she thought was the famous actor. “It hurt me to do it,” Anne explained. “But I told myself that I might save a man’s life.” Little did she know that she was falling deeper into a well-crafted scam, where every step was designed to elicit her sympathy and trust.

Anne’s realization that she had been scammed came when she saw genuine photos of Brad Pitt with his girlfriend, Ines de Ramon, in the media. The shock of seeing the real Brad Pitt in the photos made her realize the deception she had been part of, but by then, the financial damage had already been done. “I ask myself why they chose me to do such harm like this? I’ve never harmed anyone. These people deserve hell,” Anne said, expressing her anguish over the experience.

In response to the news of Anne’s ordeal, Brad Pitt’s representatives issued a statement addressing the scam. The statement emphasized how distressing it is for scammers to exploit fans’ emotional connections to celebrities. “It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities,” the representative said in a statement to E! News. The actor’s team further stressed the importance of recognizing the dangers of unsolicited online outreach, especially from individuals impersonating public figures. “Brad Pitt does not maintain verified accounts on major social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, or X (formerly Twitter),” they added, making it clear that any online communication from the actor is likely to be fraudulent.

Anne’s experience underscores the importance of being vigilant in the digital age. Experts warn that catfishing scams are on the rise, particularly those involving celebrities or other well-known figures. Authorities consistently advise people to be cautious when interacting with anyone claiming to be a public personality, as these individuals rarely, if ever, engage directly with fans on social media.

As Anne continues to cope with the emotional and financial consequences of the scam, her story serves as a stark warning for others. It’s essential to be aware of the signs of catfishing and to report any suspicious interactions to the proper authorities. In an age where online scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, it’s crucial to remain cautious and protect both personal information and finances from exploitation. Anne’s story may be tragic, but it could help prevent others from falling victim to similar schemes in the future.
