Savannah Guthrie is well-known for her poised and professional presence as a co-anchor on *The Today Show*, 

but she recently opened up about a moment in her early career that still causes her some regret. 

During an interview with reality TV star Khloé Kardashian, Savannah found herself in the midst of a tricky situation, 

one that she now looks back on with a sense of embarrassment.

In a candid conversation on SiriusXM’s Town Hall with co-anchor Craig Melvin, Savannah shared the details of the awkward exchange. 

The moment in question occurred during Khloé’s appearance on the show, when rumors were swirling in the media regarding her paternity. 

Specifically, there had been ongoing speculation that Robert Kardashian Sr., her well-known father, might not actually be her biological parent, leading to widespread rumors about her true father. 

Savannah admitted that the producers at the time wanted her to address the rumors directly with Khloé, but the idea of asking such a personal and uncomfortable question made her feel uneasy. “I can’t even remember the details, but I know the producers at the time, none of whom are here today, really wanted me to ask and I was very embarrassed to ask such a question,” she explained.

As a young and somewhat inexperienced anchor, Savannah admitted that she procrastinated, putting off asking the difficult question until the very last moment. She explained the concept of a “hard out,” a strict deadline for the show’s segments to end before the broadcast cuts to black. With only seconds to spare, Savannah blurted out the uncomfortable question: “Well, Khloé, and just real quickly, in the seconds we have, there’ve been some stories that Robert Kardashian is not your father. Is he?”

Khloé, known for her calm and composed demeanor despite the relentless scrutiny she’s faced throughout her life, responded with professionalism. “Yep, I know. Nothing to it,” she said matter-of-factly, before the segment ended with Savannah quickly wrapping it up, saying, “And we’ll be right back.” Savannah later praised Khloé for her handling of the situation, calling her “a doll” and acknowledging how the reality star had saved her from further embarrassment with her grace under pressure.

For Khloé, the question was far from new. Throughout her life, Khloé has been dogged by rumors questioning whether Robert Kardashian Sr. was her biological father. These speculations often stemmed from the noticeable differences in appearance between Khloé and her siblings, leading some to believe that there may have been some truth to the whispers.

The rumors gained even more traction after Khloé’s mother, Kris Jenner, addressed the topic in her 2011 memoir, *Kris Jenner… and All Things Kardashian*. In the book, Kris revealed that she had an affair during her marriage to Robert, sparking further rumors about Khloé’s paternity. However, Khloé has always denied the speculation and firmly stated that Robert Kardashian Sr. was indeed her father.

On the reality show *Keeping Up With the Kardashians*, Khloé famously refused to take a DNA test after her mother suggested it. Khloé expressed that she didn’t need a test to validate her family bond, saying, “I don’t care what they’re saying. Seriously, my dad is Robert Kardashian. My other dad is Caitlyn Jenner. I don’t need someone to tell me who my family is.”

Khloé has consistently maintained that her father, Robert, was a loving and devoted parent, and she has fond memories of him. Robert Kardashian Sr. tragically passed away in 2003 after battling esophageal cancer, and Khloé, along with her siblings, was devastated by his loss. She has often spoken about how close she was to her father and how he played an active role in her life. “He was there for all of our sporting events, any plays, any of that kind of stuff,” she recalled during an appearance on *The Kelly Clarkson Show* in 2021.

In reflecting on the awkward moment with Khloé, Savannah Guthrie has since expressed regret for asking such a personal and potentially painful question on air. However, her experience serves as a reminder of the challenges that anchors and reporters face in navigating sensitive topics while maintaining professionalism. Fortunately, Savannah was able to learn from the experience, and Khloé’s poise and grace provided a perfect example of how to handle difficult situations in the public eye.
