Mark Consuelos frustrated Kelly Ripa after confessing he’s had ENOUGH of co-hosting LIVE by her side. What’s causing the tension at home and work?

Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa have become a beloved duo on Live with Kelly and Mark, but the idea of them co-hosting together almost didn’t happen.

Fans may be surprised to learn that when the opportunity first arose for Consuelos to step into Ryan Seacrest’s former role, both he and Ripa were hesitant.

However, it was one deeply personal reason that ultimately convinced him to say yes.

During the April 17 episode of Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, the Riverdale alum opened up about the decision-making process behind his transition to daytime television.

Reflecting on the moment he was approached about the job, Consuelos revealed that his initial reaction was to turn it down.

Why Mark Consuelos Initially Rejected the Live Offer

While speaking on the podcast, Consuelos admitted that both he and Ripa thought the idea of him co-hosting Live was unrealistic at first.

“So, when they asked me, we both said, ‘No, this is insane. We can’t do this,’” he shared, according to Entertainment Tonight. “And then we started talking about it. I remember us talking about it. I’m like, ‘No, you know, no.’”

Although the couple initially dismissed the idea, they later began weighing the pros and cons. While Ripa had already been a staple on Live for over two decades, Consuelos had spent years working in television dramas, including his long-running role on Riverdale. The transition to a daily talk show was a significant career shift, and Consuelos wasn’t sure if it was the right move.

The Emotional Factor That Changed His Mind

Ultimately, one major factor led Consuelos to reconsider: the amount of time he had spent away from Ripa due to his previous acting commitments. The actor recalled how his busy filming schedule frequently took him to different cities and countries, keeping him away from his family for extended periods.

“One of the key deciding factors for me was over the past seven years leading up to, you know, this past year, I’d been gone so much,” he explained. “I’d been in different countries, different states, on a damn airplane every week if not twice a week. Sometimes I’d come see you for 24 hours and get back on a plane and go back to work, and so I was kind of tired of living by myself. I don’t sleep well when I’m away from you. I literally don’t sleep.”

The idea of finally having a stable routine and spending more time with Ripa was a major draw for Consuelos. After years of juggling separate work schedules and long-distance stretches, hosting Live together presented a rare opportunity for them to work side by side every day.

A Decision Rooted in Love

As fans now know, Consuelos ultimately said yes to the role, and the couple officially became co-hosts of Live in April 2023. Since then, they’ve celebrated their first year as an on-screen duo, bringing their signature chemistry, humor, and real-life relationship dynamic to the show.

Looking back, Consuelos made it clear that his decision was entirely based on his trust and comfort with Ripa.

“There’s no way I would’ve decided to say yes to doing this job if it wasn’t you sitting next to me, and I’m not just saying that because it sounds great,” he admitted. “There’s just no way I would’ve even…I wouldn’t have done it. I wouldn’t. There’s no way.”

His heartfelt confession only solidified what fans have come to love about Live with Kelly and Mark—the authenticity of their relationship and the genuine connection they bring to the screen.

A New Chapter for Live

Since their first official broadcast as co-hosts, Ripa and Consuelos have continued to thrive on Live, proving that their natural chemistry extends far beyond their marriage. Fans have embraced their playful banter, heartfelt conversations, and occasional bickering, making them one of daytime television’s most entertaining couples.

As Live moves forward with Ripa and Consuelos at the helm, viewers can expect more of the dynamic that has made them a fan-favorite duo. And while the decision to co-host together may not have been an easy one, it’s clear that Consuelos has no regrets about making the leap—especially when it means sharing every morning with his wife.
