In a heartfelt message shared on Valentine’s Day, Draven Bennington, 

the 22-year-old daughter of late Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington, publicly announced that she is transgender. 

Draven, who now uses she/her pronouns, revealed that she began transitioning last year, marking a significant and empowering new chapter in her life.

In her Instagram post, Draven reflected on her journey and the struggles she faced before embracing her true self. 

“For a long time, I tried to be someone, someone I truly wasn’t on the inside,” she wrote, acknowledging the internal conflict she had experienced for years. 

Her decision to speak out on Valentine’s Day was a way to “show some love to myself” and celebrate her decision to live authentically.

Choosing Happiness Over Complacency

Draven shared that for a long time, she had ignored her true identity in an attempt to fit into a version of herself that didn’t align with who she was inside. However, as time passed, she reached a turning point where she could no longer ignore the crossroad between complacency and happiness. “Ignoring it worked for a while, but continuously coming to the crossroads of being happy or being complacent was one I couldn’t keep choosing,” she admitted.

In August 2024, Draven made the life-changing decision to begin hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a step she describes as one of the best decisions she has ever made. “It has been the best decision I’ve ever made in my life,” she expressed, highlighting the profound positive impact the decision has had on her sense of self and well-being.

Support from Family and Friends

Throughout her transition, Draven has found immense support from her family and friends, including her mother, Samantha Bennington. Draven expressed deep gratitude for the love and understanding she has received from those close to her. “I love each and every one of you who have shown me nothing but love and respect and see me for who I truly am,” she wrote, thanking her supporters for being part of her transformative journey.

Her mother, Samantha, has been a constant source of strength, standing by Draven as she embraced her authentic self. The unconditional love and support from family, along with her own growing self-love, have helped Draven find the courage to publicly share her truth. She concluded her message by stating, “With all the support and love I’ve received, I’ve built the strength to love myself. This is why I’m choosing to no longer hide who I am. Love is love. A Tribute to Her Late Father, Chester Bennington

Draven’s announcement comes almost seven years after the tragic death of her father, Chester Bennington. The beloved musician, known for his powerful voice and emotional lyrics, died by suicide in July 2017 at the age of 41. Despite the loss, Draven has continued to honor her father’s memory and has shared meaningful moments from her childhood with him. In June 2022, she posted a throwback photo on Instagram to celebrate Father’s Day, offering a sweet tribute to the man who remains a central figure in her life.

Chester Bennington had six children in total, with Draven being one of his six kids from various relationships. His legacy continues to live on through his music and his children, including Draven, who has shown immense strength in the face of personal struggles and the loss of her father.
