Katie Price was ridiculed as “naive” after alleging the police overcharged her for fines tied to reckless behavior: “I shouldn’t have given them that much…”

Katie Price has once again made headlines, but this time, it’s for a rather unexpected reason—her car insurance.

Despite a history of six driving bans and multiple run-ins with the law over motoring offenses,

the former glamour model has managed to secure a surprisingly low car insurance rate of just £800 per year.

Katie’s Troubled Driving History

The 46-year-old has had a tumultuous relationship with the road, accumulating multiple driving bans over the years.

One of the most serious incidents occurred on September 28, 2021, when she crashed her BMW on the B2135 in West Sussex while driving under the influence.

This led to a two-year driving ban and a 16-week suspended jail sentence for driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Her troubled driving past doesn’t end there. Prosecutors revealed she had already received five previous driving bans before this 2021 incident. Additionally, in March 2023, she was fined £880 for driving a Range Rover on the A14 bypass in Northamptonshire without insurance or a valid driver’s license.

Given this history, it’s no surprise that insurance companies have been hesitant to provide her coverage. In fact, she previously received an astronomical insurance quote of £150,000 per year, or £7,000 per month, due to her high-risk status.

How Did She Secure Such a Low Insurance Rate?

Katie recently discussed her surprising insurance breakthrough on her podcast, The Katie Price Show, which she co-hosts with her sister Sophie. She revealed that after regaining her license, she initially struggled to find affordable coverage. Even renting a car proved to be a costly endeavor, with rental fees reaching £1,600 per month.

However, in a surprising turn of events, she decided to check if she could insure her own car—and to her delight, she was approved for a fully comprehensive policy for just £800 per year. Expressing her excitement, she said:

“I’ve now got normal insurance for £800 a year—fully comp and I’m so happy.”

Comparing the Costs

Katie’s insurance rate is shockingly low, considering that the average cost of car insurance in the UK is around £861 per year. Typically, insurance premiums are heavily influenced by factors such as driving history, previous claims, and risk assessments. Given her extensive record of driving offenses, many would have expected her to be in the high-risk category, making her recent insurance deal even more surprising.

Back on the Road

Despite her past troubles, Katie wasted no time getting back behind the wheel. She shared how she visited a rental service, Enterprise, and requested the biggest and nicest Jeep available. She recalled her surprise when they handed over the keys to a Nissan Jeep, despite her driving history.

“I went, what, I can have the Nissan? They went, yeah! They’re looking at me like they’ve never seen anyone so happy in their life.”

Past Legal Consequences

Katie Price’s driving history has landed her in court on multiple occasions. In one of her more recent cases, she was fined £1,852 in relation to an offense committed on August 2, 2023. The court heard that police officers spotted her at an M&S petrol station and, upon reviewing CCTV footage, saw her stepping out of the driver’s seat of a Range Rover.

While she was not immediately stopped by police at the time, a subsequent investigation revealed that she did not hold a valid license due to a “medical stop” placed on it in April 2023. She later received eight penalty points on her expired license.

Moving Forward

Despite her numerous legal troubles, Katie seems determined to put her past behind her and embrace a fresh start. She described the new year as a time for “manifesting good things”, and securing affordable car insurance appears to be part of that positive shift.

However, given her history, only time will tell whether she can maintain a clean driving record moving forward. For now, though, she’s back on the road—this time, legally insured at a surprisingly low cost.
