Al Roker caused a stir by claiming he’s about to be FIRED from the show, blaming the executives: “I have evidence of their wrongdoing…”

Beloved Today show weatherman Al Roker is bringing his passion for meteorology to a new generation in an exciting and educational way.

The 70-year-old broadcaster, who has been a staple of morning television for decades, is set to launch an animated series titled Weather Hunters.

The show, produced by his own Al Roker Entertainment, will debut in the summer of 2025 and aims to introduce children to the fascinating world of weather and climate.

A New Adventure in Learning

On January 22, Roker officially announced the project, sharing his enthusiasm with fans on social media.

In his post, he expressed his excitement about the opportunity to engage young audiences with a topic he holds dear: the science of weather.

“The kids in your life will love it—and maybe even learn a thing or two about a topic near and dear to me: WEATHER!” he wrote on Instagram.

His followers quickly responded with enthusiasm, flooding the comments section with messages of support. Many were thrilled at the prospect of sharing the series with their children and grandchildren, with one user writing, “Wow! This is wonderful!!! I will watch this with our grandkids… and alone. ❤️ Congrats!!”

An All-Star Cast Brings Weather Hunters to Life

The series features an impressive voice cast that includes award-winning actors and well-known personalities. Roker himself stars as Al Hunter, the father of the show’s main character, Lily Hunter, an 8-year-old aspiring weather detective voiced by Tandi Fomukong.

The Hunter family also includes Lily’s mother, Dot, voiced by Holly Robinson Peete, as well as her siblings, Corky (Kapri Ladd) and Benny (Lorenzo Ross). The talented ensemble also features Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph as their friendly neighbor, Ms. Joyce, and legendary actor LeVar Burton as Al’s grandfather, Wallace Reed Hunter.

The Educational Mission Behind Weather Hunters

Targeted at children aged 5 to 8, Weather Hunters is designed to blend adventure and comedy while fostering a deeper understanding of meteorology and Earth science. The show will be available in both English and Spanish and will premiere on PBS KIDS on July 7, 2025.

According to a press release from PBS KIDS, the show aims to “cultivate awareness, curiosity, and caring about how weather and climate impact individuals, communities, and our global society.” By following Lily and her family’s weather-related adventures, children will gain insights into how meteorology affects everyday life in fun and engaging ways.

Roker’s Passion for Weather and Education

For Al Roker, Weather Hunters represents more than just another project—it’s a dream realized. The veteran weatherman has long been passionate about educating the public on climate and weather patterns, and now he’s taking that commitment to an even younger audience.

“Weather has always been a passion of mine, and inspiring young minds to explore its wonders has been one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey,” Roker said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to share that passion with a new generation, including my granddaughter, Sky, who reminds me every day of the importance of leaving a better planet for our kids.”

Anticipation Builds for the Premiere

With an all-star cast, a meaningful educational mission, and the expertise of one of America’s most trusted meteorologists, Weather Hunters is already generating excitement ahead of its summer 2025 release.
