SHOCKING NEWS: Michael Strahan stuns fans with his sudden announcement of LEAVING GMA, blaming the show’s executives. What’s the reason?

Michael Strahan Reportedly Set to Leave GMA, Walking Away from Massive Salary

Michael Strahan, the beloved Good Morning America (GMA) co-host, is reportedly preparing to leave the show by summer, according to sources.

The former NFL star and television personality is allegedly making this decision to prioritize his family,

particularly after a tumultuous period following his daughter Isabella’s battle with cancer.

While some insiders insist that this is mere speculation, reports suggest that Strahan is ready to step away from his high-paying role at ABC.

A Difficult Year for Strahan

Strahan’s alleged decision comes after he took an extended leave from Good Morning America in October 2023. His absence was largely due to his daughter Isabella’s serious health struggles. She underwent three brain surgeries to remove a tumor, an ordeal that deeply affected Strahan and prompted an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike.

Witnessing his daughter’s battle with cancer firsthand reportedly led Strahan to reevaluate his priorities, with sources stating that he now wants to spend more quality time with his loved ones. “He will be out by this summer—he’s had enough,” an insider claimed.

However, another source close to ABC disputes these claims, arguing that there is no solid evidence to suggest Strahan is planning to leave. “There’s no truth that I’m aware of at this current juncture,” the source told NewsNation, suggesting that the reports are part of the rumor mill.

Strahan’s Lucrative Contract and Tensions at ABC

Strahan, who reportedly earns over $20 million per year, has been one of the highest-paid figures on Good Morning America. However, sources claim that this salary has become a point of contention within ABC News, particularly amid recent layoffs and budget cuts.

Network insiders have indicated that resentment is growing toward high-profile GMA anchors, including Strahan, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos. Their multi-million-dollar contracts stand in stark contrast to the struggles of behind-the-scenes staff who are reportedly overworked and underpaid following recent job cuts.

“Now producers are doing the work of two people… with one paycheck,” an anonymous ABC employee revealed. Morale at Good Morning America has reportedly suffered, with the show trailing behind NBC’s Today in ratings.

The controversy surrounding the network intensified following reports that ABC agreed to pay $15 million toward Donald Trump’s presidential library. The payment was part of a settlement in a defamation lawsuit stemming from Stephanopoulos’ inaccurate on-air statements regarding writer E. Jean Carroll’s case against the former president.

“Money that could have gone to retain producers and assistant producers was instead used to cover a Stephanopoulos mistake while keeping anchor salaries at astronomical numbers,” a source told The U.S. Sun.

What’s Next for Strahan?

If Strahan does decide to leave Good Morning America, it remains unclear what his next move will be. As a former NFL star turned television personality, he has successfully transitioned between careers, including roles on Fox NFL Sunday and hosting The $100,000 Pyramid. Given his charisma and experience, new opportunities in broadcasting or even sports media could be on the horizon.

For now, ABC has not confirmed any official departure, and Strahan himself has not publicly commented on the rumors. Whether he chooses to remain on Good Morning America or take a step back from the limelight, his legacy as a fan-favorite morning show host remains undeniable.

With speculation continuing to swirl, viewers and fans will have to wait for an official announcement to see if Strahan will truly say goodbye to his role at GMA—and the massive paycheck that comes with it.
