Savannah Guthrie was among the first to publicly congratulate Holt on his remarkable tenure at Nightly News. 

Sharing a nostalgic Instagram post featuring the two covering past presidential elections, Guthrie, 53, praised Holt for his professionalism and class.

“Congrats to @lesterholtnbc on an amazing decade and the new chapter about to unfold!” she wrote. “I’m grateful for getting to share so many historic moments right by your side – always, always the class act ❤️.”

Guthrie, who has worked alongside Holt on various political broadcasts and even filled in for him on Nightly News, has been a longtime admirer of his work. She previously had the honor of interviewing Holt in 2015 when he officially took over as anchor from Brian Williams.

Dylan Dreyer Pays Tribute to Holt’s Mentorship

Fellow Today show host Dylan Dreyer also took to Instagram to reflect on her experiences working with Holt, particularly during her time on Weekend Today.

“You’d think the most nerve-wracking day of my career was my first day on air at Weekend Today,” Dreyer, 43, wrote in her heartfelt message. “But @lesterholtnbc made me feel so comfortable from day 1.”

Dreyer’s time working with Holt dates back to 2012 when she joined Weekend Today as a weather anchor. Their collaboration continued across multiple NBC News programs, including Nightly News: Kids Edition.

Holt officially announced his departure in a memo to NBC staff on February 24, reflecting on his decades-long career in journalism.

“A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history,” Holt wrote. “As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”

Although he is stepping down from Nightly News, Holt clarified that he will be staying with NBC in a full-time capacity as the anchor of Dateline.
