SHOCK: Stephen A. Smith criticizes LeBron James’ behavior as “nonsense” – The real story behind their intense disagreement!

Stephen A. Smith has already addressed his viral sideline encounter with LeBron James, but the ESPN personality isn’t done speaking on the matter.

During an appearance on Gil’s Arena on Tuesday, Smith expanded on the incident

that unfolded during the Lakers-Knicks game last Thursday, making it clear that he wasn’t happy with how things played out.

The confrontation, which quickly went viral, saw James approach Smith during a timeout in the third quarter at Crypto.com Arena.

The NBA star was visibly upset, accusing Smith of speaking negatively about his son, Bronny James.

Reflecting on the moment, Smith didn’t hold back in his latest comments, calling James’ actions “weak.”

A Heated Courtside Exchange

On Gil’s Arena, Smith provided more details about what transpired that night. He explained that his agency, WME, secured his seats for the game, placing him in a prime spot near the Lakers’ bench.

During a third-quarter timeout, James suddenly walked over and confronted him. “I turn around, and he’s right here in my face,” Smith recounted. “And he says, ‘Yo, you gotta stop talking s— about my son. You gotta stop f—ing with my son. That’s my son, that’s my son!’”

Smith, attempting to diffuse the situation, suggested they discuss it after the game. However, James refused and continued to press him about his comments on Bronny.

The Fallout and Smith’s Perspective

Smith claims he had no intention of publicly discussing the incident until it went viral. However, with widespread attention and pressure from his ESPN bosses, he was compelled to address it on First Take.

Further fueling Smith’s frustration was James’ decision to speak about the encounter during a courtside conversation with Richard Jefferson in Boston on Sunday. Smith took issue with James’ remarks, believing the basketball star had misrepresented their exchange.

“I thought that he misrepresented the argument, I was glad he did,” Smith said. “Because what he was really talking about, which was confirmed with his conversation with Richard Jefferson, is that I was talking about him as a father. Had he said that to me, I wouldn’t have been thrown off. I would’ve come right back at him—yes I was, I was talking about you, you did this s—.”

Smith insisted that he never criticizes parenting when analyzing sports, but he believes James’ role as a father played a significant part in Bronny’s journey to the NBA.

The Debate Over Bronny’s NBA Career

At the core of the dispute is Smith’s belief that Bronny James’ path to the NBA has been influenced by his father’s status. He argued that the young player needed to “earn his stripes” in the G League before solidifying his spot in the league.

Since being drafted by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny has split time between the NBA and the G League. So far, he has appeared in 18 NBA games, averaging 1.4 points per game. Smith pointed out that ESPN’s SportsCenter had displayed Bronny’s stats, drawing widespread reactions.

“I can’t ignore it,” Smith said, explaining the difficult position he’s in as a sports analyst. “Because how am I doing my job if now you’re putting me in a position where because they put the stats up, everyone is blowing it up? … How is all that happening, but Stephen A. Smith’s got nothing to say? I can’t get away with it.”

Smith Stands by His Comments

Despite the public backlash, Smith remains firm in his stance, believing that LeBron James strategically positioned himself as a father figure to help Bronny get into the NBA.

He reiterated that his comments were never meant as a personal attack on the younger James but rather an objective analysis of his journey to the professional level.

While the situation between Smith and LeBron James has captured the sports world’s attention, it remains to be seen whether this dispute will escalate further or if both parties will move on. However, one thing is clear—Smith isn’t backing down from his opinions anytime soon.
