Craig Melvin’s first day as co-anchor of TODAY was made even more memorable when he was surprised by a visit from his family, leaving him emotional and teary-eyed.

Upon seeing his family enter the set, Craig could hardly contain his emotions, wiping away tears as he greeted them. “When I left this morning, you were all in bed!” 

Craig exclaimed, clearly overwhelmed by the gesture. Lindsay, his wife, laughed and replied, “We faked it,” as the family entered the studio with big smiles.

Craig’s son, Delano, made a particularly adorable appearance, dressed up in a suit and even taking a seat next to his dad. 

Delano, who seemed more than ready to join the family business, proudly declared, “I’m professional!” when Craig noticed the microphone in his son’s hand. The young boy’s enthusiasm added to the already emotional atmosphere of the moment, making it clear that he was ready for his own spotlight in the future.

This special surprise was especially meaningful for Craig, who has spent nearly 14 years at NBC News and was recently promoted to co-anchor of TODAY alongside Savannah Guthrie, following the departure of Hoda Kotb. Later in the show, Craig turned to his daughter, Sybil, and asked her if she had anything to say. “Sweet girl, you didn’t say anything. Is there anything you wanted to say?” Craig asked. In true comedic fashion, Sybil responded, “No! Del stole what I was going to say,” causing the room to erupt in laughter.
