During a tense moment on The View, Whoopi Goldberg revealed her anti-Republican bias by making a brief comment during an argument with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith.

It’s no secret that many of the hosts on The View have a strong political stance.

However, on Tuesday, longtime host Whoopi Goldberg made a surprising on-air admission that left viewers stunned.

During a lively debate with ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, Goldberg inadvertently confirmed what many have speculated for years—the deep-seated political bias of the show.

The conversation grew intense as Smith challenged the panel’s perspective,

and Goldberg’s unexpected remark seemed to solidify the long-standing notion that the show leans heavily in one direction.

Heated Exchange with Stephen A. Smith

The discussion initially revolved around former President Donald Trump and the outcome of the election.

While the panel continued to express their dismay over his victory, Smith countered with an argument that placed responsibility on the Democratic Party. He contended that Trump’s rise was not merely due to voter decisions but also because of the Democrats’ failure to deliver a compelling message to the public.

“You brought up the message that the Democratic Party was disseminating,” Smith said, pushing back against the panel’s claims. “I’m challenging you on that. That is not what they were doing.”

Goldberg, unwilling to let the statement go unchallenged, quickly interjected in defense of the party. Her response, however, took an unexpected turn.

“Oh, yes, it was. I was here. We did it!” Goldberg shot back, seemingly acknowledging her role in advocating for a particular political narrative.

This candid remark did not go unnoticed, as many viewers saw it as an outright admission of the show’s bias. While The View has long been perceived as left-leaning, Goldberg’s words appeared to confirm the extent of its alignment with progressive messaging.

Stephen A. Smith’s Dominance in Debate

The moment was just one of several instances where Smith challenged the panel, delivering strong rebuttals to their arguments. At one point, Joy Behar attempted to downplay Trump’s electoral success by suggesting his victory was marginal. Smith, however, wasted no time in correcting her, reminding Behar that the election results overwhelmingly favored Trump.

“Find a new strategy. Eighty-nine percent of the counties shifted to the right,” Smith asserted, leaving Behar with little room to argue.

Even Alyssa Farah Griffin, the panel’s lone conservative voice, took a moment to acknowledge Smith’s surprising political standing. She pointed out that Smith’s polling numbers were nearly tied with prominent Democratic figures such as Pete Buttigieg and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Additionally, he ranked higher in favorability than Vice President Kamala Harris and Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.

Smith, unfazed by the mention of his rising popularity, responded with confidence.

“I make of it that citizens, particularly on the left, are desperate,” he remarked. “And I mean it when I say it: I think I can beat them all.”

The View’s Challenges and ABC’s Looming Layoffs

The contentious episode comes at a time of uncertainty for ABC, which is facing significant staff reductions. The network’s parent company, Disney, is reportedly preparing to cut approximately 200 positions across ABC News and the Disney Entertainment Networks unit.

These cuts follow an earlier round of layoffs in October when around 75 employees from ABC News and local affiliates lost their jobs. As the network moves toward a greater focus on streaming, shows such as 20/20 and Nightline are expected to consolidate, while Good Morning America—one of ABC’s top-rated programs—will also undergo restructuring.

A Moment That Won’t Be Forgotten

Goldberg’s accidental admission of bias on The View is likely to be remembered as a rare instance of unfiltered honesty in television debates. While the show has long been known for its outspoken hosts, this moment provided an undeniable glimpse into the perspectives that shape its discussions.

With The View continuing to be a staple of daytime television, it remains to be seen how this moment will impact the show’s reputation and its engagement with a politically diverse audience.
