Kathie Lee Gifford became emotional as she shared a harrowing story from over 30 years ago,

revealing that former president Donald Trump played a crucial role in ensuring her and her newborn daughter’s safety from a dangerous stalker.

During an interview on The Sage Steele Show, the 71-year-old television personality recounted the terrifying experience 

that unfolded in 1993 while she was preparing to host the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City. 

Unbeknownst to her at the time, the FBI had uncovered a chilling threat against her life, involving a violent criminal who was determined to find her.

A Life-Threatening Warning from the FBI

Gifford explained that her late husband, NFL legend Frank Gifford, was the first to learn about the threat. The FBI had contacted him with alarming news: a convicted murderer and rapist had set his sights on Kathie Lee.

“The FBI called my husband, and they said, ‘Mr. Gifford, we have a problem. There’s this guy. This is a very, very bad human being. [He] was a psychopathic murderer—a rapist and murderer. And he’s coming to get your wife,’” she recalled.

The authorities informed Frank that the suspect had previously assaulted and tortured his own aunt. However, she had managed to escape and alert the police, revealing that he had stolen her keys and declared his next target—Kathie Lee Gifford.

The FBI advised the family to maintain their normal schedule to avoid tipping off the criminal. But Frank refused to agree until he had made one crucial phone call. That call was to Donald Trump.

Donald Trump’s Immediate Response

Kathie Lee revealed that at the time, she always stayed at the Trump Plaza and Casino whenever she was in Atlantic City. With her location potentially known to the stalker, her husband turned to Trump for help.

“He called Donald,” she said. “And Donald immediately said, ‘Frank, don’t you worry about it. I’ve got your girls. I’ve got your girls. And don’t you worry.’”

Without hesitation, Trump arranged for his private helicopter to transport Kathie Lee, her six-week-old daughter Cassidy, and their nanny to the hotel, ensuring their safety.

The Hidden Truth Behind Trump’s Generosity

Gifford admitted that she had no idea of the real reason behind Trump’s sudden generosity at the time. She recalled being surprised when he personally reached out to tell her he was sending his helicopter for her.

“I said, ‘Donald, women have babies every day. It’s no big deal. Thank you. But it’s no big deal,’” she remembered.

Trump, however, simply congratulated her, keeping the true reason for his actions a secret.

When she arrived in Atlantic City, she was immediately surrounded by Trump’s private security detail. “These guys are major, major, and they’re like, ‘Mrs. Gifford, Mr. Trump wants you to know that we’re here for you,’” she recalled.

Still unaware of the danger she was in, she continued with her preparations for the pageant as normal, accompanied daily by security.

A Shocking Discovery

Gifford only learned the full extent of the threat on the day of the Miss America pageant when she saw a newspaper headline about the suspect coming after her.

Despite the frightening revelation, she refused to back down. When asked if she wanted to reconsider going on stage, she stood firm. “Hell no… nobody’s going to make me afraid,” she declared.

After completing her hosting duties, she returned to Connecticut with her family. It was then that she finally received news that the FBI had captured the suspect.

“In the middle of the movie, one of the FBI guys comes over and goes, ‘Mrs. Gifford, we got this son of a b***,’”* she recounted.

An Unbreakable Bond

Looking back on the ordeal, Kathie Lee Gifford became emotional, expressing her deep gratitude for Trump’s intervention.

“And this is why I will love this man for my whole life,” she said tearfully.

Despite decades passing since that terrifying experience, Gifford remains thankful for Trump’s quick response and the steps he took to ensure her safety. His actions, she emphasized, were never publicized or used for personal gain—she only learned about his role in protecting her recently.
