Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion, made headlines at the 2025 Australian Open 

after choosing to forgo a traditional on-court interview following his fourth-round victory against Czech player Jiri Lehecka. 

The reason for Djokovic’s decision was his dissatisfaction with remarks made by a sports journalist from Channel 9, the official broadcaster of the tournament.

and directed disparaging remarks toward him.

“I have nothing against Jim Courier or the Australian public,” Djokovic said during his press conference. He made it clear that his decision wasn’t aimed at the Australian public or the interviewer, but rather as a response to the incident with Channel 9. “I told him, you know, if you guys want to fine me for not giving an on-court interview, that’s okay, I’ll accept that ’cause I feel like this is something that needs to be done,” Djokovic shared in a video posted on his X account, elaborating on his stance. He also mentioned that he had discussed the issue with Craig Tiley, the director of the Australian Open, and was prepared to accept any consequences for his actions, as he believed it was important for the matter to be addressed.

Although Djokovic didn’t name the journalist directly in his comments, it was clear that Tony Jones’ behavior was the focal point of his frustration. His decision to skip the interview sent a strong message, and fans quickly rallied behind him, expressing their support for the tennis legend’s stance on the issue.
