Paul McCartney touched fans’ hearts with an emotional message during his SNL performance: “I truly admired the right person…”

Paul McCartney, the legendary Beatles icon and former Wings frontman, delivered a deeply emotional performance at the 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live,

leaving fans in awe and some even in tears. The iconic musician, now 82, took the stage to perform a selection of songs from Abbey Road,

marking a nostalgic and poignant tribute to both the long-running comedy show and his own storied career.

During the event, McCartney performed three classic tracks: Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, and The End, which famously appear as a medley on the B-side of Abbey Road.

His stirring rendition of these songs resonated deeply with viewers, many of whom were overwhelmed by emotion.

The performance quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media to express their admiration and nostalgia.

One user captured the sentiment shared by many, posting: “Eighty-two and still effortlessly able to make me cry.” The performance was not only a musical highlight but also carried an emotional weight that fans couldn’t ignore, especially due to a subtle yet powerful connection to a past SNL moment.

A Poignant Tribute to Chris Farley

While McCartney’s performance was already moving, many fans were particularly touched by a reference that brought everything full circle. The closing line of The End—”And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”—reminded viewers of a beloved SNL sketch featuring McCartney and the late comedian Chris Farley.

In the 1990s, McCartney made a memorable appearance on Saturday Night Live as both host and musical guest. One of the most cherished sketches from that night featured Farley, who played an overeager, nervous interviewer. At one point in the skit, Farley quoted the famous lyric back to McCartney and earnestly asked, “Is that true?” The sketch remains one of the most beloved in SNL history, largely because of the sincere admiration Farley had for the rock legend.

Fans were quick to make the connection between McCartney’s recent performance and his heartfelt moment with Farley all those years ago. One viewer wrote, “SNL’s 50th Anniversary ending it full circle with one of the best. Paul McCartney performing Golden Slumbers and Carry That Weight as a nod to Chris Farley… ‘That was awesome!’ Not a dry eye in my house.”

Another fan shared, “Poetic that Paul McCartney performed The End at the SNL 50th Anniversary, with the line ‘and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.’ A beautiful callback to the sketch he starred in with the late great Chris Farley!”

Fans React with Emotion and Praise

Social media was flooded with reactions from fans, many of whom expressed deep appreciation for McCartney’s performance and his enduring influence. Beyond the emotional weight of the Farley connection, fans also marveled at McCartney’s ability to still perform with passion and soul at his age.

One enthusiastic fan posted: “The You Never Give Me Your Money reprise during Carry That Weight may be the greatest moment in recorded music. Blew my mind when I was nine years old and still hits just as hard today.”

Another admirer remarked, “It’s incredible that he sounds like this at this stage of his life and that he’s still performing—what a gift we have in Paul McCartney!”

However, some fans had mixed emotions about the performance, with one viewer noting, “One of my favorites by the great Sir Paul. I wish he had transposed it or reworked the melody to suit where his voice is now. Can’t be on every night, I get that, but a slight adjustment would have made it even better.”

A Timeless Legacy

McCartney’s appearance at Saturday Night Live’s milestone celebration not only showcased his legendary songwriting and performance skills but also served as a touching reminder of his long history with the show. For many, his tribute to Abbey Road and the subtle nod to Chris Farley reinforced the timeless nature of both his music and SNL’s impact on popular culture.

Even as he continues to perform well into his eighties, McCartney’s ability to move audiences remains undeniable. His tribute at the anniversary event will be remembered as a fitting, full-circle moment—one that beautifully honored both the legacy of SNL and a cherished moment shared with a comedy legend.

For fans of both music and comedy, it was a night to remember, proving that McCartney’s influence is as powerful as ever, and that, indeed, the love you take is equal to the love you make.
