Robin Roberts, the beloved Good Morning America host, and her wife, Amber Laign, have a unique living arrangement that has sparked much curiosity among fans and the public. 

While it might seem unusual to many, the couple, who have been together for nearly two decades, has made it work, 

and Robin opened up about their unconventional lifestyle during a recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show.

The two women first met in 2005 through mutual connections and began dating, though they kept their relationship private for many years. 

In 2013, after nearly eight years together, Robin publicly came out as a lesbian, revealing her long-term relationship with Amber to the world. 

A decade later, in 2023, the couple tied the knot, solidifying their bond after 18 years of love and partnership.

However, their living situation, which involves living apart for part of the week, is something that has drawn attention. While many couples prefer living together full-time, Robin and Amber have made their own arrangement work. Robin, who wakes up early for her Good Morning America duties, and Amber, a massage therapist, live separately for three days a week due to Robin’s demanding work schedule.

During a visit to Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, Robin discussed this arrangement and explained how it functions for them. Sherri, having known about Robin’s living situation, mentioned it in front of the audience, asking Robin about living apart during the week. Robin responded with a lighthearted tone, laughing at the audience’s shocked reaction.

“Not everybody can do this,” Robin said, acknowledging that their arrangement isn’t for everyone. She explained that their separate living situation is not a choice but rather a practical solution that stems from her early working hours at Good Morning America. Despite living apart for a few days each week, Robin made it clear that the arrangement works for them.

“It’s working for us,” Robin said. “We’ve been together for 20 years, and trust and love are at the core of our relationship. It’s not for everybody, but it works for us.”

Although their situation is unconventional, Robin emphasized the importance of trust and love in making it work. “It’s about trust and love,” she explained, before adding with a chuckle, “But also, it’s kind of nice… She would say the same thing!” This reflects the balance that they have achieved in maintaining their individual identities while also being deeply committed to each other.

Another positive aspect of their living arrangement is that it allows both Robin and Amber to enjoy their personal interests. While Robin is an avid sports fan, particularly passionate about tennis, Amber enjoys different types of shows. They jokingly “trade off” when it comes to watching each other’s favorite programs, ensuring that their time together is still fulfilling and supportive. However, one notable moment of Robin’s sports enthusiasm occurred when she was watching the Australian Open Women’s Tournament finals. Robin was so excited about Madison Keys winning her first Grand Slam that she was up at 3 a.m., cheering loudly.

The next day, Robin was surprised when Amber asked her who won, as she hadn’t heard Robin’s loud cheering. Robin laughed and explained that her wife’s ability to sleep through loud noises was a blessing in this situation. It was just one example of how their different routines work together despite living apart during the week.

Robin’s openness about her and Amber’s relationship provides insight into their successful dynamic. They have learned to cherish the time they spend together and navigate their differences in a way that strengthens their bond.
