Sheinelle Jones, a beloved co-host of the Today show, has revealed the reason behind her recent absence from the popular morning program. 

The 46-year-old journalist, who has been a fixture on Today since 2014, took to Instagram on January 15 to address fan concerns about her extended break from the show.

Jones has been absent from Today since mid-December 2024, prompting speculation among viewers. 

In her Instagram post, she shared that she has been dealing with a personal matter involving a family health crisis.

Sheinelle Jones Explains Her Absence

In a heartfelt message, Sheinelle expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received from fans and colleagues alike.

“Hi everybody… I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show,” she wrote. “I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.”

Although she did not specify which family member is experiencing health challenges, sources have confirmed that the situation does not involve her husband, Uche Ojeh, or their children—14-year-old son Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche.

Support from Her Today Show Colleagues

Following her announcement, Sheinelle received an outpouring of support from her Today show family. Jenna Bush Hager left an affectionate comment on her Instagram post, writing, “You are a queen and are LOVED beyond measure! Wrapping our arms around you, always ❤️.”

Savannah Guthrie also expressed her support, commenting, “We love you so. Not the same without you. We will see you soon ❤️.” Former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb added, “We love you ….. you are being held ….. you are family xoxo.”

A source close to Sheinelle revealed that the health matter she is dealing with is serious, which explains her extended break from the show. However, the source also emphasized that Sheinelle has been deeply touched by the love and encouragement she has received from her Today colleagues and audience.

Viewers Notice Her Absence

While Sheinelle had been off the air for nearly a month, her absence became widely discussed on social media on January 10. Fans particularly noted that she was missing from an important episode marking Hoda Kotb’s final appearance as co-anchor.

Sheinelle Jones’ Career and Upcoming Projects

Sheinelle Jones has been a key part of the Today show since joining in 2014. She co-hosts the 3rd Hour of Today alongside Dylan Dreyer, Al Roker, and Craig Melvin. Over the years, she has become a familiar and trusted face for morning television viewers.

Beyond her work on Today, Sheinelle is also preparing for an exciting new project. She is set to release a book titled Through Mom’s Eyes on April 15, 2025. “In addition to their moms, many of my friends contributed lessons they learned from their mothers—including my Today show fam,” she wrote. “I also talk a lot about my journey—from growing up in Kansas to the Today show. You can order it in my bio. I hope you love it.”

When Will Sheinelle Return?

At this time, Sheinelle has not provided a specific date for her return to Today. As she continues to focus on her family’s needs, viewers will have to wait for further updates.
