More than a week after legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, 

were found dead in their Santa Fe home, the investigation into their deaths remains ongoing. 

Authorities have labeled the circumstances as “suspicious” but have yet to determine a definitive cause or timeline for their passing.

While the specifics surrounding their deaths remain unclear, 

new details have emerged that shed light on the life they shared, particularly regarding Arakawa’s commitment to Hackman’s health and well-being in his later years.

A Life Focused on Health and Longevity

Reports suggest that Arakawa, who was 65, was deeply invested in maintaining a healthy lifestyle—not only for herself but for Hackman as well. 

She strongly encouraged the 94-year-old Oscar-winning actor to stay physically active, even as he slowed down due to age.

According to sources, Arakawa believed fitness played a crucial role in longevity and was adamant that her husband remain mobile for as long as possible. Instead of allowing him to rely on a wheelchair, she preferred that he use a cane, emphasizing movement and independence.

In addition to prioritizing physical activity, Arakawa followed a clean and health-conscious diet. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza provided key details from the investigation, revealing that Hackman’s pacemaker had last recorded activity on February 17. This data suggests he may have passed away more than a week before his body was discovered. However, officials have not been able to establish an exact time of death for either individual or determine which of the two died first.
