Tom Hanks Has a Hilariously Blunt Response to Savannah Guthrie’s Co-Anchor Request

Savannah Guthrie had an interesting pitch for Hollywood legend Tom Hanks during his recent appearance on Today, 

but the Oscar-winning actor was quick to set the record straight. While Guthrie hoped to convince Hanks to join her as a co-anchor, 

the beloved Forrest Gump star had a rather blunt—and hilarious—reaction to the idea.

During their interview on February 19, Guthrie, 53, floated the idea of Hanks, 68, stepping in as her co-anchor. 

A clip of their exchange, shared on Today’s Instagram, captured the amusing moment.

“Are you going to co-anchor with me ever?” Guthrie asked playfully.

Hanks initially entertained the idea with a casual, “Wouldn’t that be great?” But before Guthrie could get too excited, he shut it down with a firm response.

“I’m not getting up that early, lady,” he declared, making it clear that the demanding morning schedule was not for him.

Guthrie, not one to give up easily, kept pushing. “Come on!” she pleaded, only for Hanks to double down on his reluctance.

“And I am not reading all that research,” he added, making it known that the extensive preparation required for a morning news show was also a dealbreaker.

A Fun Twist—Hanks’ Change of Heart

Still hoping to sway him, Guthrie suggested an alternative: “What about just for one day?”

Hanks, however, had his own conditions. Instead of agreeing to a single-day guest appearance, he completely changed course.

“No, I’m sorry. It would have to be for the full week,” he stated.

Guthrie, clearly thrilled by his new stance, wasted no time accepting the deal. “OK, done!” she responded enthusiastically. “Twist my arm.”

The Cast Away star then humorously warned her about what to expect by the end of the week.

“By the way, will I be cranky on Friday morning,” he admitted, to which Guthrie assured him, “Your cranky is like everyone else’s best day.”

Hanks agreed, adding, “I will say when I’m cranky, I’m pretty damn hilarious. I must say.”
