Usher has made it clear that maintaining boundaries in his marriage is key to a healthy relationship. 

During his appearance on the February 11 episode of the podcast Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, the R&B icon opened up about how he 

and his wife, Jenn Goicoechea Raymond, navigate their personal and professional lives while working in the same industry.

The “Yeah!” singer, 46, explained that while his wife, a record executive, is a great source of support, he believes it’s best that they don’t mix business with their personal lives. 

“I definitely rely on her opinion about things. 

She’s an incredible sounding board and brings calm to some of my madness sometimes,” Usher shared.

However, when it comes to working together directly, Usher admitted that it could create challenges. “But if we had to work together, oh my God, it wouldn’t work. It would damage our relationship,” he stated.

To ensure their marriage remains strong, the couple has set clear boundaries. “We have a policy,” Usher explained. “If this is a business that you’re in, I’m going to help establish and work on it. But it’s your business, you know, and then we have the things that we do together, but it’s not a mandate. It’s a choice in a relationship.”

A Strong Partnership Built on Communication

Usher emphasized the significance of mutual understanding and communication in his marriage. According to him, he and Jenn share a deep connection that allows them to effectively listen and respond to each other’s needs. “She understands my language and I understand hers,” Usher said, highlighting how their ability to truly hear each other strengthens their bond.

“We understand how to hear each other, but more than hearing each other, we know how to listen. It’s one thing to have space to talk, but to have ears to hear—that is the difference in having successful relationships in life, period.”

Furthermore, Usher believes that having a partner who understands the demands of the entertainment industry has been beneficial. “Having someone who comes from the world or either the idea of that world and what it takes in terms of dedication and commitment, it actually helps. It really does help,” he shared.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Usher and Goicoechea first sparked dating rumors in 2016 when she posted a cozy Instagram photo of herself whispering into his ear. While they kept their relationship relatively private in the early years, they eventually went public in 2019. After several years together, they tied the knot in 2024, solidifying their commitment to one another.

Days before obtaining their marriage license and officially exchanging vows in Las Vegas, Usher spoke to PEOPLE about his deep connection with Goicoechea. “When you find someone that you know is a great partner, of course, it is an honor and a pleasure to be able to share life with someone who wants to share it with you and loves you for who you are,” he expressed.

Usher further elaborated on their relationship, emphasizing the strength of their bond and the reasons behind their commitment. “We’ve obviously made a commitment to life for life together because of our children,” he explained. “It wouldn’t be odd for us to get married. We already did here. You know what I’m saying?”

The singer continued, “And we’re going to be in each other’s lives until we die, obviously, because we have something to share. That’s beautiful. Our children. But not because of that. I really do feel like I have an amazing partner that I respect.”

Family First

The couple shares two children: daughter Sovereign Bo, 4, and son Sire Castrello, 3. While their relationship is built on love and mutual respect, their role as parents has only strengthened their bond.
