Whoopi Goldberg stunned The View co-hosts by clashing with Elon Musk live: “Let’s see your move after this humiliation.”

Whoopi Goldberg didn’t hold back on the latest episode of The View as she took aim at billionaire Elon Musk, reminding him that he was never on the ballot in 2024.

The discussion was sparked by Musk’s recent Oval Office press conference,

where he defended his controversial cost-cutting measures through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative.

The outspoken co-host of the popular daytime talk show wasted no time in pointing out the irony of Musk advocating for government spending cuts

while benefiting from billions in federal contracts.

Whoopi Calls Out Musk’s Federal Ties

During Wednesday’s broadcast, Goldberg highlighted Musk’s long-standing financial relationship with the government, stating, “Over the last 10 years, Musk’s companies—SpaceX and Tesla—were awarded at least $18 billion in federal contracts.” She further emphasized how his net worth had skyrocketed since the president’s election, adding, “Since the president’s election, his net worth has increased $64 billion, or nearly 25%.”

With that in mind, Goldberg proposed a solution that quickly won over the audience: “So yeah, I’m going to say: You want to cut something? Cut some of the stuff you’re taking out.”

Her statement was met with thunderous applause, underscoring the widespread public concern over Musk’s growing influence in government affairs. Once the audience quieted down, she added a pointed remark: “I get that there’s fat everywhere, and yes, we’d all like to see less of it. But what you’re doing is a lot more than just cutting fat.”

Then came her most striking statement of the discussion: “Nobody elected you. That’s the part, that’s the part.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin Weighs In on Musk’s Role

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin took a more strategic approach to analyzing Musk’s involvement in government operations. Addressing speculation that the billionaire might have more power than President Donald Trump himself, she provided a different perspective.

“I do want to note one thing, ’cause some people are like, ‘Elon’s actually in charge, it’s not Trump,’” Griffin said. “I actually think that Trump is doing something strategic by having Elon own this because it’s going to get less and less popular when people see that things they like are being taken away, and he’s gonna blame Elon.”

Her analysis suggested that Musk may be acting as a political shield for Trump—taking the heat for unpopular budget cuts while allowing the former president to deflect blame when the public reacts negatively.

Griffin went even further, predicting that the partnership between Trump and Musk was unlikely to last. “This relationship isn’t gonna last,” she asserted, hinting at possible friction between the two high-profile figures in the near future.

The Controversy Over Musk’s Government Role

Elon Musk’s involvement in government policy-making has been a hot topic since he was brought on to lead the DOGE initiative. The program, aimed at reducing federal spending and eliminating waste, has been met with both praise and fierce criticism. While Musk has positioned himself as a champion of efficiency, many—including Goldberg and her fellow panelists—see his influence as overreaching, particularly given his own financial ties to the government.

Critics argue that Musk, who built his business empire with the help of federal contracts and subsidies, is now attempting to cut essential government services while continuing to benefit from taxpayer money. This contradiction has only fueled concerns about billionaires exerting too much control over public policy.

Trump and Musk: A Relationship on the Brink?

Farah Griffin’s prediction that the Trump-Musk alliance may soon crumble is not unfounded. While the two have found common ground on issues like deregulation and economic policy, their strong personalities and differing long-term goals could lead to tensions down the line.

Trump has a history of turning on former allies when public perception shifts, and if Musk’s cost-cutting measures become unpopular, the former president may distance himself to avoid backlash. If that happens, Musk could find himself politically isolated despite his efforts to influence policy.

What’s Next for Musk’s DOGE Initiative?

As Musk continues to push his budget-cutting agenda, he is likely to face increasing scrutiny—not just from political commentators like Goldberg, but from lawmakers and the public as well. If his proposed cuts impact essential services or programs that Americans rely on, his role in government could become even more controversial.

For now, one thing is clear: The View isn’t afraid to challenge Musk’s growing influence, and Whoopi Goldberg made sure to remind him that despite his wealth and power, he wasn’t elected by the people.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
